I spy red and teal in Nepal
So to continue along my favorite color theme lines, I have chosen another selection of red and teal photos from Nepal. In some cases, the red and teal is not so obvious and you may have to search a bit.
Our main story focus here has to do with HIV/AIDS. In Nepal many people migrate to India for work (there is an open border between Nepal and India) and get AIDS there. In most cases, the husbands who migrated to India came back and gave their wives the disease. Through one of MCC's partners, HIV/AIDS support groups are being formed to raise awareness in communities and educate people about the disease. It was neat to hear several individuals share how they went from believing they were going to die to having hope that they can live healthy, happy lives even if they are HIV positive and also be support and encouragement to others living with HIV.
I shall take a moment to mention that this is officially my last overseas assignment as MCC photographer. In August I will begin a one year volunteer assignment with MCC, most likely in Nicaragua. So while I will continue to work with MCC, I'm going from being an employee to a volunteer. I'm very excited for this next "chapter" of my life but also sad to leave my job at MCC. I'll give a fuller update about exactly what I'll be doing overseas in the near future. Hope you've enjoyed my photo bloggings! That's all for now!
p.s. Check out the most recent MCC photo gallery from Congo
p.p.s I turned 26 in Nepal today! Highlights from the day included seeing a boy do a back flip off a rock as we drove past, drinking a delicious bottle of Coke (without corn syrup, tastes way better than in the U.S.!) with a bendy straw, and eating home baked chocolate chip peanut butter cookies for dessert made by Heidi Stoltzfus.
