steadfast
sometimes i really connect with analogies and metaphors from nature that relate to life situations and circumstances.
a few weekends ago during the women's retreat with my church we were all given a "secret santa" prayer partner. we prayed for our partner throughout the weekend, and then revealed our identities to one another with a verse and a word of encouragement at the end of the weekend. i was really encouraged by what my secret santa had to say to me so i wanted to share it.
she shared that the word steadfast kept coming into her mind as she was walking along the beach. God's love for us is steadfast. What does that even mean?
unfailing; reliable; stable; loyal; certain; constant; faithful; unswerving
she said his love is like the ocean...the waves continually roll into shore, no matter what the weather, time of day, or whatever.
even when i feel scrumpled, inadequate and disappointed with myself, his love remains steadfast. when i feel lost, shallow and scattered, his love remains deep and constant, just like the ocean waves.
i am the little crab scurrying about in the sand, wishing i were instead a mermaid diving into the ocean depths or a sea gull flying far and wide to discover endless mighty waters. but maybe for now i am to remain a wee crab, darting about the shoreline to be constantly reminded of the unending ocean waves that keep sweeping over me in my sand hole.
Ps. 36:5-6 Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.
