The Best Part of Me

I would like to share some of the results of "The Best Part of Me", a photo project where children choose their favorite body part and write about it. I asked my students to explain why they like their body part and what kinds of things they can do with it. We also talked about metaphors and they were supposed to write one, although not all of them followed through on that :) One of my favorites came from Juan who wrote, "My arms are like the branches of a tree and my hands are the leaves."

I had students take turns photographing one another's favorite body parts from different angles and positions and then I also took photos, in case theirs didn't turn out. This is their first digital photo project and they are still learning how to use digital cameras and so unfortunately many of them turned out blurry due to the shutter lag or because they didn't give the camera time to focus. So in the examples you see, just two were taken by students. For the take home assignments they are using Olympus Tripp point and shoot film cameras. Our next theme is about symbols and community.

I apologize to those of you who don't understand Spanish...Hopefully you can still enjoy the photos and try to guess which body part they chose.

  2. I agree with Carrie, about it being a very creative project and something that the students will learn a lot from. I think those displayed did a great job. Good work, Melissa ! - Mom (Carol)
