spring fairy tale

Spring is here to awaken us all! The weather has been beauteous these past two days! New life is in the air. Yesterday as Lisa and I walked home from a friend's house, we noticed that our street had come back to life. Not that it isn't always a lively place, but it was noticeably more alive yesterday. Kids were riding their bikes, folks were out on their porches, others were fixing their cars with the music thumping, dogs and puppies were frolicking on their leashes, and we skipped along happily hand in hand (j/k).

There is something about a warm spring breeze that just makes me feel like floating off into a fairy tale, twirling beneath a cherry tree of falling petals to fall dizzily onto a blanket of sweet cool grass, closing my eyes to let the fresh smells invade my nostrils, as the butterflies tickle my cheeks with their wings, and then opening my eyes to see my prince charming galloping towards me on a white steed, reaching out his hand, inviting me to ride off with him into the hills and on to forever. Sigh. If only we could all escape into fairytale land every now and then.

Another thing I mustn't fail to mention are the snow geese at Middle Creek Wildlife Center. It's probably getting a bit late to see them now, but 2 weeks ago, just after the big snow, Dave and I drove over snowy roads and trudged through freshly snowed paths at sunrise to see them take off. We had to be patient for the massive flock to take flight all together, but when it did, it was amazing. It was like a huge curtain of white, flapping, honking birds lifting off, swirling together and around to land once again at a different spot in the lake. Soon I'll post some photos so you can see more!

PS- We hosted a gallery event at our apartment last Saturday featuring some of my photos from Haiti. We also raised $81 for relief kits in Iraq and had 2 kits donated. You can check out photos from the event by clicking on the picasa photos under the "my photography links" section.

  1. I so agree with the skiping, twirling, cherry bloosoming feel of spring! I feel like I have to suck it all in before the city gets to humid!! The trees are bloosoming and it makes my walk to and from the work so much better:) YAY!
